What is Safety Lanyard Hook?
The safety lanyard hook snap features a durable spring that attaches securely and quickly to ropes, cables, chains or other ropes.
In its most basic form, a safety lanyard hook is a roughly question mark-shaped metal hook with a hollow portion into which a spring-loaded closing lever is mounted. There's also a small attachment that grabs the safety lanyard hook and opens it when pressed with your thumb. After loosening the knob, the door will quickly close under the action of the spring.

Key features of safety lanyard hooks
Safety Lanyard Hook:
The safety lanyard hook has a door that can be opened and closed manually. They are designed with locking mechanisms, either automatic or manual. The self-locking safety lanyard hook has automatic closing and self-locking functions, which reduces the risk of the door opening accidentally and provides additional security. Manual locking safety lanyard hooks require the user to manually twist or push the sleeve to lock the door.
Size And Shape:
Safety lanyard hooks come in a variety of sizes and shapes, with different door openings and load capacities. The size and shape should be suitable for the specific application and compatible with the attachment points and anchor points on the user's harness.
Door Opening Size:
Door opening size is an important consideration because it determines how easily the anchor points and harness D-rings will connect. Larger gate opening simplifies connection.
Strength Rating:
Safety lanyard hooks are marked with a strength rating, indicating their load-bearing capacity. It is crucial to choose a safety lanyard hook that is rated to meet or exceed the expected forces that may be exerted during a fall.
Visual Inspection:
Regular visual inspections are necessary to check for signs of wear, damage, or deformation. Damaged or worn safety lanyard hooks should be taken out of service immediately and replaced.
Door Clearance:
Make sure the safety lanyard hook has adequate door clearance when attached to the anchor point or D-ring to ensure proper engagement and security.
Compatibility:
Safety lanyard hooks should be compatible with the specific type of vertical anchor line and fall protection equipment used. They should be installed easily, securely and without causing disruption.
Alloy steel safety lanyard hook is an alloy steel composed of different metals such as steel, chromium, and molybdenum. Alloy steel not only enhances its strength and durability, but also makes it resistant to corrosion and rust. Capable of use in harsh and corrosive environments such as marine applications, chemical plants and offshore oil rigs.
The safety lanyard hook is designed with a spring-loaded door that allows you to open or close the hook quickly and easily. Normally, the gate remains closed, but when the spring-loaded mechanism is released, the gate opens. Users can easily attach or detach the hook to other components, making it an ideal tool for a variety of industrial and commercial applications. Widely used for connecting chains, ropes, slings and other related lifting and rigging equipment. These hooks are also used in fall arrest and rescue equipment, such as harnesses and lanyards, as anchor points.

Terms and Definitions

1. Termination connector (class T)
Self-closing connector designed to allow the fixing as an element of a sub-system in such a way that the loading is in a predetermined direction.
2. Anchor connector (class A)
Connector which closes automatically, designed to be linked directly to a specific type of anchor as a component.
3. Screw link connector (class Q)
Connector which is closed by a screw-motion gate, which is a load bearing part of the connector when fully screwed up , intended to be used only for long-term or permanent connections.
4. Gate
Part of the connector which can be moved to open it
NOTE The gate can, for example, move by pivoting about a hinge (hinged gate), or by a sliding motion (sliding gate) or by a screw motion (screw-motion gate).
5. Self-closing gate
Gate which moves automatically to the closed position when released from any open position.
What is the difference between a carabiner and a safety lanyard hook?
A carabiner is a metal ring with a spring-loaded door that opens quickly to disconnect parts of the safety device. The word comes from the German karabinerhaken, meaning "carbine spring hook," which has been "translated" and abbreviated to the English "carabiner."
The carabiner can only be opened manually by pushing the door away from the loop.
A safety lanyard hook is very similar: It's a hook with a spring-loaded opening that allows the rope or line to enter the shackle, but not leave it without pulling down on the small knob with your thumb to open the spring.
When purchasing safety lanyard hooks or carabiners, you should make sure they have a kN rating (kilonewtons) rating engraved on the spine. If the one you own does not have these ratings, do not use them to protect yourself or others from falls!
One kilogram of newtons is approximately 225 pounds. This is a rating of gravity, not the weight of the object. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, gravity is equal to your mass (150 pounds) times acceleration.
The kN rating helps you find a safety lanyard hook or carabiner that can withstand the forces generated by a fall. In other words, when the body falls, a safety lanyard hook or carabiner will help prevent the body from falling completely to the ground, as long as the kN rating matches the impact force generated by the individual body.
Safety Lanyard Hook inspection steps:
Check whether the spring hook or carabiner is damaged. Check carefully for cracks, sharp edges, burrs, dents or deformations. Check for bends or twists.
Check the snap hook or carabiner for excessive corrosion. Doors and locks should operate smoothly and without difficulty. The gate must be fully closed and the hook nose engaged.
Check the mark. Markings should be present and fully legible.
Check each system component or subsystem.
Record the inspection date and results in the inspection and maintenance log.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The key components of the steel hook have been specially treated for wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and have been rigorously debugged. Lubricating oil needs to be added during use, and disassembly and modification are strictly prohibited. And should be placed in a dry place and kept clean.
If the device is subject to fall protection impact or is found to be defective upon inspection, it must be discontinued immediately and destroyed or returned to an authorized service center for repair.

Safety lanyard hooks follow NFPA 1983 safety rope and equipment standards used in emergency rescue services, and the product should indicate whether it is a technical product (light product) or a general purpose product based on design load and performance requirements. The standard allows manufacturers to indicate the rated minimum breaking strength of the product at MBS or higher, but does not exceed the calculated value of 3σMBS based on the latest experimental results. Some manufacturers indicate the minimum performance requirements required by NFPA on the product and provide the test results on the label or product manual. Other manufacturers simply indicate on their equipment a value of 3σ MBS based on the latest experimental results.
In ANSI/ASSE Z359.12 fall protection guidelines, the strength requirement for safety hooks is 5,000lbf (22.2kN). Because the safety hook may strike or slip through the load when a worker equipped with a fall brake system falls, the standard requires a strength of 3,600lbf (16kN) to push forward and sideways and close the safety hook opening.
User training: Workers must receive appropriate training on how to properly use safety lanyard hooks, including how to open and close them, verify their locked status, and check their safety.
The safety lanyard hook is a key component of the fall protection system, and its correct selection, use and maintenance are crucial to ensuring the safety of workers working at heights. Workers should understand the characteristics of these connectors and how to use them safely with vertical anchor lines and other fall protection equipment.
